Why did I choose SilverDoor?

I sought a programme that would strengthen my education in economics. SilverDoor Apartments offered me experience in accounts receivable, payable and credit control, which was ideal, as I wasn’t sure which career path I wanted to take.

What do I do at SilverDoor?

After finishing university, I re-joined SilverDoor Apartments as an Accounts Receivable Analyst, and, within my first year, was made Senior Accounts Receivable Analyst. Since then, I’ve received a further promotion to Accounting Technician, my most recent promotion is to Group Management Accountant.

As an Accounting Technician, I assist with the preparation of management accounts, foreign exchange analysis, and annual audit preparation. I’m also responsible for payroll across our three offices.

What did I enjoy the most about my placement?

At no point did I feel like a student. I was trusted with my work and offered full support.

There’s only so much you can learn at university. The SilverDoor placement scheme gave me real world examples of the things I’d only practiced in a classroom.

Switching between three finance teams gave me a much greater understanding of finance processes. As a result, I returned to university with renewed confidence and knowledge.

Key skills and attributes required to do my job well?

Attention to detail is key for carrying out analysis of our accounts. It’s also vital to have some prior knowledge of accounting and to keep up-to-date with current affairs. Other important qualities include problem solving and numeracy skills.

The 12-month placement scheme we offer is ideal for those on a sandwich course, and carries all the benefits of permanent employment.
