Why did I choose SilverDoor?

At the time, I’d lost interest in the software development course I was studying. I didn’t want to do my final year straight away, and sought a placement that allowed me to focus on systems and infrastructure instead.

The IT Support role SilverDoor Apartments offered was perfect. It gave me lots of practical experience and responsibility, along with a fun environment in which to work. I was trusted just to get on with things, and, for most part, worked on my own initiative.

What do I do at SilverDoor?

I do a lot in a lot of different areas. I look after our safety, security and disaster recovery, and that includes making sure our antivirus policies are correctly updated and back-ups done. As well as responding to high priority support issues and managing our domain controller, I assist users with queries and procure new software for the company.

What did I enjoy the most about my placement?

I would have to say the placement house itself. I loved sharing a home with 8-9 likeminded people as we were able to enjoy London together.

Key skills and attributes required to do my job well?

As Technology Systems Manager, I can’t afford to make any mistakes. One single miscalculation and I stand to bring the whole office down. Thankfully, we haven’t had any disasters happen on my watch, but it’s important to stay calm and open-minded. Only this way can you anticipate what’s coming with a cool head.

More importantly, you need to have a passion for technology. I love what I do, and keep a close eye on tech-related news and developments. This industry is fast-moving, and reading widely is the best way to stay ahead of the game.
