Before last night, we were all slightly unsure what to make of Blippar, an app which has become the latest craze amongst advertisers. However, after a rather glamorous evening with Business Traveller magazine at The Dorchester, we’re feeling inspired and full of knowledge about it all.
‘Blipping’ is the action of instantaneously converting a flat image into an interactive experience using technology. Blippar is the first image-recognition mobile phone app aimed at bringing to life real-world newspapers, magazines, products and posters.
It launched in the UK in the summer of 2011 but is still relatively fresh and the majority of brands are yet to make use of this new form of technology. However, big brands such as Cadbury, Heinz and Nestle have all taken that step forward and are successfully using Blippar in their ad campaigns.
Business Traveller has been redesigned and this month sees their first interactive edition, featuring Blippar throughout.
The magazine will use the application in every edition from now on. At the launch party, we were shown how Blippar can bring an advert to life, engaging the reader and providing them with a great deal more information than they would get from the print advert alone.
