This year BBC Children in Need, one of Britain’s best-loved charities, raised a record on-the-night total of £26,332,334 - £8 million more than in 2010. The show was hosted by Fearne Cotton, Alesha Dixon, Tess Daly and of course the inimitable Terry Wogan.
One of the most admirable things done this year to raise money for Children in Need was ex-Blue Peter presenter Matt Baker’s gruelling rickshaw ride from Edinburgh to London. He began the challenge on 11th November and cycled for up to 10 hours a day, burning up to 9,000 calories daily. He raised £1.2 million for the charity.
SilverDoor’s fundraising event wasn’t quite so arduous: after last year’s successful event, we decided to hold a bake sale again this year. The company’s star bakers turned out their finest cupcakes and brownies while companies who came to the office for meetings that day also contributed, by bringing their own cakes or by purchasing ours. After some of the cakes were bought and devoured by members of staff, they were given out around Chiswick in exchange for small donations. Our scrumptious selection included banana and chocolate loaf, macaroons, chocolate tiffin, millionaire shortbread, chocolate cornflake cakes, chocolate cupcakes and many more – all were very well received by the residents and workers of Chiswick.
We are delighted to say that we raised a total of £322.12, beating last year’s total by over £100! It was a great result and we are really grateful to everyone who made cakes, bought cakes or who simply donated money to Children in Need.
