New York City is one of the most populous cities in the United States. The Big Apple, which is located on one of the largest natural harbours in the world and juts out into the Atlantic Ocean, is made up of five boroughs: Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island. There is no lack of cosy neighbourhood coffee shops in New York that welcome visitors with frothy cappuccinos and warm chat, and the title of greatest coffee in the city is heavily contested! Here are the top seven places to have your coffee in New York to get your morning fix.

Abraco a coffee shop in New York
This piping hot coffee paired with their impressive breakfast is guaranteed to put you in a good mood for the day

Since it first opened in 2007 this coffee shop in New York hasn't altered its menu, and with good reason. With the exception of the legendary olive oil cake and cured olive cookie, their daily selection of handcrafted organic pastries rotates each morning. The organic cow-only milk is combined with locally procured, locally roasted South American beans - nothing compares to the coffee at Abraco. Please keep in mind that this New York coffee shop is closed on Mondays.

Sey Coffee

Sey Coffee
Sey Coffee is designed to make you feel relaxed in this busy and fast-paced city

Sey Coffee has a bright and airy warehouse filled with potted plants to create a West Coast atmosphere in the middle of Bushwick. But this New York coffee shop is more than just a gorgeous setting; it's a peaceful spot where you can see the coffee being roasted on-site. This pet-friendly café is a terrific location to discover the wide array of flavours, aromas, and acidities of their coffee that has been cultivated by the skill of their global producing partners.

Along with a few other foreign roasters, Suited is a coffee shop in New York’s Financial District that partners with some of the biggest names in New York roasting, like Sey and Little Wolf. This is one of the top locations to get coffee in New York with a broad menu that includes breakfast plates and bowls, salads, soup, buttermilk fried chicken, and fresh juices.

Devocion, a coffee shop in New York
Breakfast is also served here, not just amazing coffee

Even on the busiest days, there are probably more plants than people at Devocion. Just ten days after they’re harvested, all their raw beans come directly from Colombia to make for some of the freshest morning coffee in New York. There are Devocion cafés in Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Dumbo, and Flatiron, plus their website offers a quiz to help you determine your flavour preferences. Take the quiz before drinking your new favourite coffee from one of their signature yellow mugs.
