Things to do in Lancaster

If you’re interested in the castle’s history enjoy a guided tour and discover rooms you wouldn’t normally be able to see! Another must visit whilst in Lancaster is Williamson Park, home to 54 acres of parkland with woodland walks, it was constructed by James Williamson and extended in 1999. Within Williamson Park is the Ashton Memorial, a Grade I listed Memorial commission by industrialist Lord Ashton. It was constructed in 1909 as a tribute to his late wife.

Lancaster is just a 30 minute drive away from the Lake District making it a great base for day trips to the lakes!

The city has close ties to the British Monarchy; the House of Lancaster – a former royal household – was based there. It’s also where you’ll find the Duke of Lancaster’s private estate, the Duchy of Lancaster.

Close to the castle is the Judges Lodgings Museum. It enables guests to experience a traditional Victorian afternoon tea with the volunteers dressed up in Victorian clothing and cakes made by the volunteers too. The whole museum is funded on donations.

The Ashton Memorial was used by the BBC for filming of the sixth and final series of the Peaky Blinders!
