All you need to know about Verona

Verona is a city in Italy’s Veneto region. It overlooks the Adige River, and has a population of over 270,000. It is one of seven provincial capitals in the region, and is the second biggest city municipality in northeast Italy.

Famous for its literature associations, Verona was the setting for the famous Shakespeare play, Romeo & Juliet, and has a distinctly romantic feel about it. It offers beautiful churches, spectacular bridges and amazing art, not to mention terrific food.

Famous sites include the medieval fortress Piazzale Castel San Pietro, Verona Arena, and Centro Storico - a historic walking area known for its restaurants, shops and museums. For local art, head to the Federica Casanova gallery, and, for local history, check out the Teatro Romano. Other sites worth seeing are the ancient ruins Opera Forte and Waterfall Park.

Buses operate throughout Verona, as do trains. The city sits at a major route crossing between Venice and Milan, and provides terrific rail access across Europe. Verona Porta Nuova is Verona’s main train station, and is situated to the south of the city. Verona Airport is a mere 6.2 miles to the southwest of the city.
