All you need to know about Jyväskylä

Jyväskylä is a municipality in Finland. It’s located to the west of the Finnish Lakeland, and is the largest city in Central Finland, with a population of over 138,000.

Once nicknamed “Athens of Finland”, it’s a prominent education centre that boasts a wide variety of high schools and universities. In fact, roughly 30% of the city’s population is thought to be students. Its predominant industries are paper machinery production, IT and renewable energy. The city is also known for its sport, and plays host to Rally Finland: a motorsport competition, part of the World Rally Championship.

Jyväskylä offers a number of historical and cultural attractions. Sights worth seeing include the Finnish Air Force Museum, Kuokkalan Kartano, and the wonderful bridge, Kuokkalan Silta. Other points of interest are Jyvaskylan theatre.

The city offers a number of direct trains to Pieksämäki, Helsinki, Vaasa and Tampere. It also provides bus connections. Jyväskylä Airport is situated 12 miles north the city.
