City Facts - Oulu

Oulu is a charming city in central Finland, known for its tech research. It names derives from the River Oulujoki, which runs through the city and serves as a beautiful point of interest. As Finland’s fifth most populated city, Oulu draws visitors from all over with its wondrous monuments, streets, and galleries.

One of its main cultural exports is music. Oulu’s Air Guitar World Championships are internationally renowned, and city’s many concerts attract a wide variety of artists and musicians.

Oulu is served by Oulu Airport, which is Finland’s second largest airport by passenger traffic. The city has an extensive transport network centred on non-vehicle traffic, but also boasts a number buses and trains.  

Popular Oulu attractions include Tampere Market Hall, Oulu Cathedral and Nallikari Beach - which is as charming in the winter as it is in the summer. Its various green spaces like Ainolan Puisto and Hupisaaret Park provide a perfect escape from the busy city, and its many museums, including Turkansaaren and the Atelier Gallery Kaikkonen offers lots of food for thought.
