Tampere is a city in Finland. It lies between two lakes, Pyhajarvi and Nasijarvi, and is roughly 100 miles from Helsinki - Finland’s capital. Originally a market town, it has a long industrial past centred on textiles and metal. These days, Tampere is better known for things like mechanical engineering, automation, health and biotechnology.

The city has a thriving cultural scene driven by music, theatre and literature. It’s home to the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, and boasts its fair share of writers. Famous Tampere theatres include Pyynikin Kesäteatteri,Tampereen Teatteri and Tampereen Työväen Teatteri. Tampere’s public transport network is predominately bus-based. Buses can be boarded anywhere in the city, and arrive at regular intervals. Taxis are another popular mode of transport, and are great for getting around Tampere. Local taxi ranks can be found at bus stations, train stations, and at Tampere’s main airport, Pirkkala.
