Douglas is the capital and largest town of the Isle of Man. It’s located at the mouth of the River Douglas, and a two mile long bay. The River Douglas forms part of the town's harbour and main commercial port.

Douglas is home to the High Courts and the Isle of Man Government, and the town serves as the island's main hub for business, finance, shipping, transport, shopping, and entertainment.

The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown dependency, with the head of state being Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Lord of Mann.

The Crown is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. The island is not a part of the United Kingdom, but foreign relations, defence and ultimate good governance of the island are the responsibility of the government of the United Kingdom.

The Isle of Man is not a part of the European Union, but has a limited relationship concerning the free movement of goods. Offshore banking, manufacturing, and tourism are key sectors of the economy.
