All you need to know about staying in Cumbernauld

Cumbernauld is a large industrial town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland. The largest town in its council area, Cumbernauld is 14 miles northeast of Glasgow. Geographically the town is in Scotland’s central belt sitting between east and west but is more interlinked with the nation’s capital. A pre-medieval settlement, traces of the Roman occupation are still present throughout the town highlighting how old and historic Cumberland really is. With temperatures reaching up to 18°c in the summer, Cumbernauld usually experiences cold wet weather year-round.

 

 

Things to do in Cumbernauld

Cumbernauld is home to what most people claim as the UK’s first shopping centre built in the 1990’s. Home to a wide variety of shops and eateries such as Houston’s Bar and Grill, the town is not short of nice dining options. World of Wings bird of prey centre is an interesting day out if relocating with family and has very good reviews. Palacerigg Country Park is a great open space where visitors can utilise all 10km of nature trials and pathways. Cumbernauld Museum tells the story of the town’s history and is home to lots of interesting exhibitions. Cumbernauld Theatre at lanternhouse and Arria the Mermaid Sculpture are both worth a visit.

 

 

Transport in Cumbernauld

There is a handful of bus services which pass through Cumbernauld. The town is easily accessible via bus from Glasgow using a range of bus services including the X25, M9 and 38C. Cumbernauld train station on the Cumbernauld line has trains which regularly pass through the station. Located in the southeast part of the town, Dalmuir is around an hour and twenty minutes away via train as Glasgow around thirty minutes. Taxis, walking, and cycling are also recommended if you are staying local whilst on your trip to Cumbernauld.
