All you need to know about Plymouth

Plymouth is a city located on the coast of Devon, England, built between the mouths of the rivers Plym and Tamar. The city has ideal ferry links to Spain and France as well as being home to Plymouth City Airport which provides flights to international destinations.

Throughout the years Plymouth has become a major shipping port, dealing with the construction of fishing boats and the Royal Navy’s battleships. In World War ll, the success of their port led to the ‘Plymouth Blitz’ in which it became a target and was partially destructed. Once the war had finished it was completely re-built. In today’s society, Plymouth’s economy is still centred around shipbuilding but it now has influences from the service sector.

Plymouth is home to many theatres, cinemas and art galleries as well as street markets, exhibitions and festivals. A notable festival held in the city is the British Fireworks Championship and The Music of the Night (an outdoor production held every two years). The Plymouth Morris Men also perform in a range of events and venues throughout the year.
