Stafford was founded in 700AD, and was originally a strategic crossing point in the valley of the River Sow. As of the Early Middle Ages, it became a key hub for the delivery of grain and the production of Roman-style pottery.

The County of Staffordshire was formed in the late 900s, followed by the construction of Staffordshire Castle in approximately 1090.

Since then, the town has gone through numerous transformations. In the 18th century, its economy was focused heavily on the shoe industry and, by 1837 the first railway station in Stafford was built.

The town is covered by a number of large taxi companies which offer competitive rates. These are SmartCars, West Side, Aerobright’s, Anthony AJ’s and Kaminiski Hire.
