San Francisco is located in the state of California and has a population of around 826,000, making it the second most densely populated city in the USA. The city is served by San Francisco International Airport, which provides services to destinations across North America, Europe and Asia.

The San Francisco Municipal Railway makes getting around the city easy with the public transport system including light rail and subway services, a bus network, a streetcar line and cable cars. Bay Area Rapid Transit also connects San Francisco with East Bay via a underwater Transbay Tube.

San Francisco is home to Market Street, which is where the financial district is centred. Nearby, Union Square is the cities principal shopping and hotel district. Cable cars are a popular form of transport as it carries visitors and locals up the steep inclines of Nob Hill and down to Fisherman’s Wharf. Other famous landmarks in the city include Alcatraz Island (an ex-military prison) and Chinatown.
