All you need to know about Johor

Johor is a Malaysia state, situated to the south of Peninsular Malaysia. Its shares a border with the Riau Archipelago, and goes by the Arabic honorific, “Abode of Dignity”. Its impressive economy is centred on the following sectors: service, manufacturing, agriculture and construction.

Johor is one of Malaysia's largest regions by land area, and boasts an impressive number of rivers and forest reserves. The state is made up of eight islands, and has a tropical rainforest climate which is hot and humid throughout the year.

The main language spoken is Johorean Malay, and the predominant currency is Malaysian ringgit. The state has a constitutional monarchy, headed by the Sultan of Johor - part of the Johor Royal Family.

Johor has a total of ten districts - Johor Banhru being the capital city - and is home to 16 local governments. Its popular attractions range from scared sites to shopping malls, but the state also features a number of parks and wildlife areas like Gunung Lambak and Pulai Waterfall.

Senai International is Johor’s main airport, and is served by the major airlines AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly. The state boasts three ports, along with a number of ferry harbours and jetties, and the main mode of transport is buses.
