Trafalgar Square

Named after the 19th century Battle of Trafalgar, a British naval victory during the inaugural years of the Napoleonic Wars, Trafalgar Square is often referred to as the centre of modern London. Lined with iconic landmarks and well-loved restaurants, Trafalgar Square is one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.

At the centre of the square, visitors will find Nelson’s Column – a towering monument that honours the bravery of Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died during the aforementioned battle.

However, there’s more to Trafalgar Square than its fascinating bank of history. The square has also been the site of mass political protests and demonstrations. In 1958, the square was occupied by those from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and in 2009, members from the Camp for Climate Action occupied the square.

These days, the square is known for its pioneering commercial spirit and vibrant cultural atmosphere.
