Ciaran Fogarty, Partner Relations Intern
Having completed my master’s in Finance and Management, I was looking to gain experience working within a successful SME. I’d already carried out some research into the industry and had developed a particular interest in the serviced apartment sector; it seemed an exciting place to start my career. As a rapidly expanding company, SilverDoor appealed to me as somewhere I would have real responsibility, where I could make a valuable contribution to the Property Partner team.
What do I do at SilverDoor?
Initially, I was brought in on a six week placement to help refresh the property content on the website. Once this was completed, my contract was extended and I became responsible for helping to maintain and update the property content on our website. This involves contacting our property partners to ensure the properties they have in our portfolio are accurately described on the website.
What I enjoy the most about my internship
It may sound strange, but I actually really enjoyed the routine and structure of working life. I also find it satisfying that I’m able to transfer the skills I’ve gained throughout my education into a practical setting. For example, I’ve been able to use my French speaking skills from my undergraduate degree when contacting property partners in France.
I’ve also enjoyed being able to contribute to a team by discussing different projects with my colleagues.
Key skills and attributes required to do my job well
I’ve vastly improved my networking and interpersonal skills in this role as I’ve had the opportunity to build relationships with our property partners and have developed a professional manner both over the phone and in emails. Excellent spoken and written English is also of vital importance to my role as you’re constantly in contact with property partners and you need to be able to obtain accurate and relevant information efficiently.
