During that time Guadalajara was occupied by many including Archangel Michael – who, to this day, remains Guadalajara’s patron. In 1542, Guadalajara was granted its city status, and, since then has grown with the introduction of various new landmarks and industries, as well as the development of corporate housing in the city as a result of business travel to Guadalajara becoming more popular. From the 18th century onwards, Guadalajara has specialised in the production of agriculture and non-durable goods including shoes, food and textiles - which, in themselves, have helped the city's business travel reputation to soar.
