A lovely market town in North Cumbria, Wigton is hidden gem. With a rich history it has a real community feel about it. Once a busy 19th Century market town, Wigton is now a peaceful location that attracts visitors looking for a quiet getaway. Made up of Georgian architecture and tight streets, Wigton has a stone memorial in the centre marking the old marketplace. Surrounded by countryside and coastal views, the town has a hospital, swimming pool, and a handful of pleasant cafes.

 

 

Things to do in Wigton

There is a plenty of walks around Wigton that take you up into the surrounding peaks offering fantastic panoramic views. There is a bowling alley perfect for business travellers moving or relocating close to area with children. Wigton is a pretty town that attracts people seeking natural sites and walks with impeccable views. Visit one or more of the town’s pubs and local spots such as The Bank of Silloth, Inn at the Bush, or Ye Olde greyhound Inn. There is lots of activities and things to see just outside Wigton such as Carlsie Castle, just over a 25-minute drive away. Knoxwood Wildlife Rescue Centre is an 8-minute drive away and makes for fascinating day out.

 

 

Transport in Wigton

Around 3 miles from the town centre, Wigton train station has regular Northern Rail trains which stop at Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness. Seven bus services run through Wigton most of them starting or ending in Carlisle. If you are travelling north and wondering how to get their Exit J41 on the M6 motorway and take the B5305 for Wigton. On your next trip to Wigton if you are planning on staying in the town, we recommend taxis, cycling, and walking.
