Family activities in London this winter
19th January 2015

If you’ve recently relocated to London with your family you may be looking for ways to keep your children entertained during the winter months in the Big Smoke. Whether your little tots are happy to brave the great outdoors or would prefer to stay in the warm, we’ve rounded up our top picks for fun in the city this winter.

Wrap up and get stuck into these outdoor activities:

Hackney City Farm brings the sights and sounds of the English countryside to inner city London. Introduce your little ones to their favourite farmyard friends including pigs, goats, chickens and sheep. Warm up in the onsite Italian restaurant, Frizzante which uses locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to prepare their lunch menus. The farm is open Tuesday to Sunday and admission is free.

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch takes place this month and you don’t need a garden to get involved! Head to one of the city’s many parks on the weekend of the 24th January and start counting all the birds you see over the course of an hour. Not only is this a fun way to get your kids outside and interested in our wildlife – you’re also contributing to the annual survey undertaken by the RSPB to determine the health of our countryside.

Keep warm this winter with these indoor activities:

Watch your family’s eyes light up as they take in the magic of Hogwarts in the Snow this winter. Until the end of January, the model of Hogwarts is transformed into a winter scene and the Great Hall is decorated for Christmas. You can even see the hand-knitted jumpers Mrs. Weasley made for Harry and Ron for Christmas. Don’t worry if you can’t make it this month as from 13th February the animal actors will be the star attraction as you can catch a glimpse of Hedwig and Crookshanks in live training demonstrations.

If your brood are looking to get a little more creative then the Imagine Children’s Festival at the Southbank centre is two weeks packed full of theatre, music and books! This free event boasts workshops with top authors including Anthony Horowitz and Russell Brand and is sure to get your family’s creative juices flowing!

These are just a few ideas of things you could do in London this winter; let us know in the comment section below what you get up to, and remember that we're here to keep things relaxed when it's back to work time to, thanks to our range of serviced apartments in London.
