Long Lane Guide

Long Lane Guide
11th May 2017

Long Lane is pretty difficult to miss if you’ve ever spent any time pottering around Southwark. It’s right next to Borough tube station, for starters. It also connects to Tower Bridge Road, which takes you all the way to St Katharine Docks, across the Thames.

Given its location, it’s ideally placed for anyone working in the City. Those in search of a good bar or restaurant will find quite a few along this south London street - with some more well-known than others.

Our Long Lane Guide breaks down all the hotspots, including some excellent serviced apartments:

Eat here

Fine Foods - Locanda Del Melo

Tuck into the finest artisan produce at this quaint deli restaurant, where all products are imported from small farms across Italy. Choose from a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches and pastries to accompany an afternoon cup of coffee, or simply pop along for dinner. The venue also offers gift baskets and hampers, as well as dried pasta, oils and vinegar.

Drink here

Simon The Tanner

Cosy, unpretentious pubs are hard to find these days. Simon The Tanner prides itself on its intimate atmosphere and fine ales, many of which come from local breweries, and are changed up a lot thanks to a rotating draft tap. The pub has a weekly quiz which runs on Tuesday and it’s loads of fun. Be sure to take part.

The Old School Yard

This cocktail bar has a distinctly retro vibe, owing to the arcade games inside. Private Karaoke rooms make it popular for birthdays, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles inspired pizza menu is a stroke of genius. Saturday is generally a good day to visit, as the bar has a happy hour running in the evening.

Stay here

Empire Square Apartments

Swish in the traditional sense of the word, this property offers corporate serviced accommodation within a short walk of Borough Market. It’s also very close to London Bridge. There are studio, one, two bedroom and penthouse apartments available, all of which include a fully equipped kitchen and free Wi-Fi. On-site parking is also available, along with terrace access.

Calico House

At the opposite end of the road lies yet another great property, boasting double bedrooms, complete with maid service. The apartments follow a simple black and white colour scheme to create a feeling of spaciousness. Guests have full access to washing machines, dishwashers and dryers.
